| I meant that you should use compete.com as a source for your ratings. Compete often succeeds in providing traffic guidance on smaller, low-traffic sites where quantcast will fail. Given that all of these traffic services (quantcast, alexa, compete) have flaws, using them all could help smooth out their drawbacks. | ||

Looking at the list above, you could only say about three made it(KOMO & KVI(Both owned by Fisher), and KIRO. We'll probably see next year ESPN set up a website for ESPNSeattle.com and see that jump up to the top of the list. Curious that both Fox Sports NW or Comcast Sports Northwest haven't spiffed up their sites to be more Seattle centric. If you trust Alexa, Beacon Hill Blog ( http://beaconhill.seattle.wa.us) is the 26,837th most popular site in the country and is run by the Kirkland Seventh-day Adventist Church. And as websiteoutlook.com appears to make its calculations off of Alexa's data, I'm really wondering when our $35 daily checks will start arriving, what with 10,863 daily page views. Quantcast rank puts us somewhere in the ballpark of NW Asian Weekly and Phinneywood, and almost as high as KPLU.org -- there's still something fishy there, too. I'm not sure really whose numbers you can trust to get anything like a reasonable ranking. |

"You need to go and register a nice domain name of your own" and "Show that you are serious - this is not 1997"? Wow. That's kind of insulting. Locality domains are perfectly legitimate. See http://www.nic.us/register/locality.html. beaconhill.seattle.wa.us has been registered since about 1999 and is a fully delegated locality subdomain under the seattle.wa.us locality domain administered by Northwest Nexus (nwnexus.com). Note that http://seattle.wa.us and http://wa.us do not even resolve. |

"You need to go and register a nice domain name of your own if you want to make the list. Show that you are serious - this is not 1997." Wow. That is a bit rude of you. You will be happy to know that beaconhillblog.com also points at the Beacon Hill Blog. However, the editors have chosen to promote the beaconhill.seattle.wa.us domain, so that is the domain everyone links to, and so beaconhillblog.com doesn't show up on stats sites. There are legitimate, valid reasons for using a locality domain -- one reason is that it shows very clearly where the site is located. I don't think I will be taking this Top 75 list seriously, as you are excluding blogs with legitimate traffic. Just checking back over the last year, it's pretty clear that we are serious about the blog and it's not some random website. (Yes, I am the one of the BHB editors.) |

Thanks -- though while it may just be a blog, a lot of people are reporting on this top 75 list as if it were gospel engraved in stone. And this does affect blogs like ours. (I think the Mercer Island one should be in too.) Incidentally, beaconhill.seattle.wa.us is in Quantcast. Their numbers are slightly lower than our internal stats but in the same ballpark. |

I'm very disappointed in the language used by the administrator of site in regards to the Seattle Geekly website. Equating geeks with hobos? First, I'd like to point out some things about the Seattle Geekly podcast. 1. Both of the owners of this site are employed. 2. They actually purchased the website. They've been up since February with both a website, and a podcast that's available on iTunes. 3. They regularly produce content for Seattle. They've interviewed organizers from some of Seattle's biggest events(Penny Arcade Expo, Emerald City ComiCon), to local area authors and and retailers. 4. They regularly update their calendar on their website with "Seattle Area Events". Needless to say, I'm disappointed greatly with the comments directed towards Seattle Geekly by the administrator. I hope in the future, research is done on the site submitted before making comments "off the cuff". On a more positive note, great job with the list. Can't wait for next years stats. |
