( 0 votes)

The Blue Whale starts with a pastoral cod fishing trip and ends in a gruesome industrial slaughter. The beautifully illustrated out of print 1971 children's book by Kazue Mizumura is surely not appropriate material for whale-loving modern children.

The Dispatch scanned some pieces of the book (we didn't scan the whole book for legal reasons) so that you may also learn that "there are many kinds of whales, and they are useful to man in different ways...

In the foreground of this photo taken on the morning of Friday, November 14 we see two young, African-American men with baggy pants and other possible gang attire. In the background are some bike cops, perhaps part of the cyclical increase in police presence the strained S.P.D. temporarily wheels out every time there is an impassioned meeting about...

Now that it is fashionable to praise people who work for the betterment of society for little or no money and whatnot I'd like to give shoutouts to Eat the State, Seattles steadiest "anti-authoritarian" publication.

While on the way to another Seattle Aquarium visit I disregarded the safety of my kid and parked us under Seattle's decrepit Alaskan Way Viaduct.

I noticed that a rain gutter (see photos) was clogged with debris, and that a hole had been welded through the pipe to release water onto the street. ALL of the gutters I saw within a block or so looked like...

Right now DowntownDispatch.com is being run by one person who spends between three seconds and eighty minutes per day on it, for pure enjoyment, because he's trying to be a better writer. We also have a "scanner lady" who is trying to get a police scanner blog system off the ground, but that hasn't started yet.

KOMO now has a Seattle Police scanner...

Bus vs. light rail: Which is your ticket to ride?

As the crowds grow inside Seattle-area buses and trains, there's no longer much debate about whether the region needs more transit. The big argument is about how to do it.

Endorsements won't buy you a cup of coffee any more than my opinion will if you don't have three bucks. Still, there's something exciting about these Downtown Dispatch endorsements because the person writing this right now last voted in 2000.
